Shaun Wright-Phillips has been speaking about Chelsea’s car crash setup, and he’s told striker Joao Pedro to leave the club.
Former Brighton forward JP only arrived last summer, but after a strong debut campaign he’s being linked with Barcelona. SWP thinks he should make the switch if he can, given the situation at Stamford Bridge right now.
“I believe it would be fantastic for Joao if he were to go,” Wright-Phillips said in quotes picked up by the Evening Standard.
“Personally, given the way Chelsea has been run, if I were him, I would do everything to complete this transfer.
“If I were Joao Pedro, I would want to play in the Champions League, and I can’t see Chelsea qualifying for any European competition. Joao has the level and deserves to be playing in the Champions League.”
We don’t like to see former players telling our players to leave – especially the good ones. But in this case, it’s pretty hard to disagree with SWP’s logic.
Xabi Alonso is creeping up the list – he’s now joint favourite for the Chelsea job, despite some big questions about his style.
Emmanuel Emegha has played his last minutes for Strasbourg, but is still somehow managing to make himself unpopular with his actions.
