Granit Xhaka drew widespread acclaim after a superb Sunderland season, as Ian Wright declined Gary Neville’s question about taking him back to Arsenal.

Xhaka has been among the Premier League’s standout signings since arriving at the Stadium of Light, helping Régis Le Bris’ side reach Europe in a remarkable campaign, Sunderland Echo reports.

Wright stressed the Swiss international’s influence extends far beyond leadership, highlighting his line-breaking passing, defensive work and all-round quality. He said Xhaka could easily have been in the player-of-the-year conversation and credited him as a major driver of Sunderland’s European push.

When Neville asked if he would still have Xhaka at Arsenal, Wright swerved the comparison after the club’s title triumph. He added that Arsenal are not seeking additions, yet argued Xhaka’s contribution to their journey before his Sunderland move deserves mention.

Duncan Ferguson hailed Xhaka’s composure in possession, calling him intelligent and technically sound, able to control games while rarely surrendering the ball. He also praised his forward passing and understanding with Ndoye’s runs in behind.

Ferguson said he was surprised Switzerland set up with a back three and left out Manzambi. He felt Xhaka would still pull the strings in a two-man midfield, suggesting his running power is limited but his passing remains first class.
