According to a report from The Guardian, Ibrahima Konaté (26) is disappointed with the latest terms offered to him in negotiations over a new contract with Liverpool. The France international defender’s contract is set to expire in 2026, and the Reds are eager to tie him down to a new deal.
The 26-year-old is said to be disappointed with the way the potential new contract would be structured. A contract heavily reliant on performance bonuses has been offered to Konaté by the Premier League champions. The former RB Leipzig defender’s representatives are pushing for a higher initial wage from the Merseyside outfit.
Liverpool are willing to return to the negotiating table to offer the Frenchman a new contract, but insist they will not overpay in order to keep the defender at Anfield. If no new contract is agreed, the centre-back will be free to discuss terms over a potential pre-contract agreement with clubs on the continent. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in his services.
