With only four points separating the top five teams, this season’s Scudetto race promises to go down to the wire.

Indeed, this could be one of the most dramatic title races in recent memory.

Cristian Chivu had steered Inter Milan to the top of the table before the team’s trip to Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana.

However, the San Siro giants boast a narrow one-point lead over second-placed AC Milan.

Furthermore, fifth-placed Juventus have whittled down the gap to only four points after Luciano Spalletti’s arrival in October.

Therefore, there’s no room for complacency, especially with several high-profile fixtures waiting in the wings.

After taking on Atalanta in their final game of 2025, Inter will face Bologna and Napoli at home in January.

Asked whether this could be a five-team race for Serie A glory, Capello replied: “Why not?

“I don’t see anyone capable of breaking away at the moment. Everyone is picking up points, then everyone slows down.

“Milan and Roma have led at times, now it’s Inter, Napoli is always up there, and Juventus is seriously getting back in the race…

“The inconsistency is mainly caused by the cups. Teams can’t maintain a high pace all the time and take turns dropping points.

“Inter is in first place, but with more losses than expected. Isn’t it time to change something?

“Chivu has played it safe so far.

“I think he has considered the less-than-optimal condition of many players and therefore decided to postpone experiments.

“But he is in first place. Still, he could dare a bit more.”
