Rather than immediately celebrating Benjamin Sesko’s breakthrough against Everton on Monday night, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw took a moment to give Matheus Cunha his credit for the part he played.
Sesko’s opener came at the end of a tremendous counter-attacking move from Manchester United – and it all started with Cunha.

The Brazilian played a long ball deep inside United’s half all the way over to Bryan Mbeumo on the right flank, after which he was able to play in Sesko, who slotted it past Jordan Pickford.
Had Cunha’s pass been mishit or an inch off-target, Mbeumo wouldn’t have been able to latch onto it so effortlessly.
Then, while the goalscorer reeled off to celebrate in front of the travelling Reds, Sky Sports’ coverage panned to Shaw and Mainoo embracing the No.10 in acknowledgement of his efforts.

Such a passage of play shows just how influential the likes of Cunha can be even when he’s not registering goal contributions himself.
He hasn’t found the back of the net since United’s 3-2 win over Fulham back at the beginning of February, which marked a third successive game that he’d either scored or assisted, doing so against both Manchester City and Arsenal.
Presumably, the former Molineux talisman will retain his place for the visit of Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Michael Carrick will be feeling the heat to grant Sesko his first start since Darren Fletcher was in the dugout. However, Gary Neville thinks Amad Diallo will be sacrificed to make way for the in-form frontman.
