Iker Casillas is claiming 3.7 million euros from Porto and insurer Fidelidade after suffering a heart attack in 2019 during training.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, he appeared at Porto’s Labour Court after filing a claim over incapacity and long-term effects. Team doctor Nelson Puga said at the time that he was stable, would recover fully and that the training exertion was unrelated.

Casillas told the court he needed seven months to resume normal life after absolute rest. He says he still cannot run beyond 20 or 50 metres without fatigue and takes daily medication to lower the risk of recurrence.

He recalled taking his sons Martín and Lucas to school, going to Olival to train, eating breakfast and doing some gym work. Around 11.00, after about 30 minutes, he felt severe chest pressure, lay down and struggled to breathe. He was moved to the dressing room, then to CUF Hospital.

The insurer has already paid 1.5 million euros, the annual maximum for workplace accidents, and Porto say they covered his full salary, more than one million euros, while he was sidelined before retirement. Both parties refuse to pay more.

He is seeking recognition of IPATH, Total Permanent Incapacity for Usual Work, worth 2.5 million euros, equal to 70% of the wages due until June 2021.
