Bulgaria thrashed the Solomon Islands 10-2 in Indonesia, the nation’s biggest win of the 21st century, despite the absence of Leeds United midfielder Ilia Gruev.
Gruev had been called into the March squad but withdrew for personal reasons. “These are my personal reasons and I hope you will respect my opinion that I will not comment on this topic anymore,” he told fakti.bg.

The 25-year-old has 27 caps and was recently named Bulgaria’s 2025 Player of the Year.
Without him, Bulgaria faced the Solomon Islands on Friday morning and ran out 10-2 winners.
The fixture opened Bulgaria’s March programme as part of the 2026 FIFA Series tournament.
