At the end of last season, Real Madrid parted ways with multiple club legends: Carlo Ancelotti, Luka Modric and Raul Gonzalez. The latter had been Castilla head coach for many years, but it was decided between both parties that he would move on at the end of his contract.
Raul left Real Madrid without a clear plan for his next job, but as he has told the ‘Con Mucho De…’ podcast (via MD), he expects to make his next move soon.
“The plan will come by itself. You have to be patient and calm. I’ve been a coach at Real Madrid Castilla for 6 years, and I’m sure that in the short term there will be an opportunity, a challenge, a challenge that excites me, because I believe that for you to do things you have to be motivated and you have to feel it.”

Throughout his tenure as Castilla head coach, Raul was regularly linked with the Real Madrid manager’s position, and he firmly believes that he will come back to the Santiago Bernabeu later in his career to eventually take it.
“I’ve been at the club where I wanted to be and where my home is, and I know I’ll come back again when it’s my turn, another time.”
Raul was also asked about the risk of Gonzalo Garcia, whom he worked with for multiple years at Castilla – the young striker has been likened to Real Madrid’s iconic former number seven during the last few weeks, and his former manager believes that he played a significant role in his development.
“I’ve had Gonzalo for two years and I think I’ve given him that last push, especially in the last season, which has been at a very high level. And now he is taking advantage of that inertia and is doing very well in the first team.”
