Sheffield United could be set for new ownership, with a broad agreement said to be in place for Prince Abdullah to sell the club to an American consortium led by private equity executive Steven H. Rosen.

They are reportedly in talks to buy the club, according to Bloomberg, who have revealed that Rosen is leading the takeover talks on behalf of a group of investors, who plan to bolster the Blades' chances of an immediate Premier League return by investing during the January transfer window.

The current Blades owner and former Saudi sports minister Prince Abdullah has wanted to sell the South Yorkshire club since at least May 2023. However, with a thin squad, they will require signings in January to bolster Chris Wilder's rebuild, despite already having got off to a good start in terms of results.

Sheffield United are looking to put the disappointment of last season behind them, in order to rebuild, re-group, and to go again. In spite of the need to get the takeover situation resolved behind the scenes for the entirety of the summer, they are inside the top two in the Championship.

It appears that their season could be about to get even better, with the Sheffield Star providing a more encouraging update on how things are playing out between Prince Abdullah and Rosen's consortium.

A broad agreement is in place after there had been an expectation that English duo Tom Page and Dominic Hughes would be heavily involved, but that isn't the case anymore, with the duo now not part of the process.

The Sheffield United reaction to the latest takeover news

There has been constant speculation over the past months about whether a deal would be complete, with the saga frustrating many fans who want clarity on the situation, and the required investment to remain a team competing at the very top of the second tier this season.

Without a serious update, the Blades have been in somewhat of a state of limbo, which was a feeling that was further compounded by the club's relegation from the Premier League back to the Championship at the end of last season.

However, given the latest, FLW's Blades fan pundit Jimmy from the Blades Ramble YouTube channel has reacted to the news that Rosen is taking the lead over Page. He feels relaxed about the situation, having been in this position many times before.

He said: "I'm calm about the situation, to be honest.

"I think it all is helped when you're doing well on the football pitch.

"If we were 16th in the league, then there would be a lot more animosity towards Prince Abdullah, whether that is right or wrong.

"There would be calls for change, and a sort of desperate need for it, and that would certainly be the rhetoric.

"However, with new ownership, you don't know what you're getting.

"Obviously, we're all hoping that if new ownership comes in, then it will take us to that next level to help us provide a platform where we can support ourselves sustainably in the Premier League.

"However, we've seen ownership cases go down badly. We can't affect it, ultimately.

"So, if we can't affect it, my dad always says to me - 'don't worry about it.'

"At the moment, I'm not. Until significant change happens, then I don't know whether it's worth us getting upset or concerned about.

"We've been down this road before so many times."

The Blades are expected to be there or thereabouts come the end of the campaign, in part due to quality operators at their disposal who have been there and done it in the Championship, and the influence of Wilder as well.

It is the job of their boss to live up to those expectations and deliver, but he also has a thin squad which could quickly fall apart through just a small handful of serious injuries; it highlights their need for more investment and the resources to continue their assault on the automatic promotion places.

With the takeover process dragging on, the club may have felt the need to cut their cloth accordingly in January, as opposed to securing more much-needed players. The Bramall Lane faithful will hope that the proposed takeover from Rosen's consortium can help on that front.

Should it be delivered in the coming weeks, then there is every chance they will be even more competitive during the run-in and the second half of the campaign, in their pursuit of becoming a stable top tier outfit for the foreseeable future in the long-term.
