Borussia Mönchengladbach interim coach Eugen Polanski ran into a heavy defeat in his first home game in charge, as his side lost 4–6 to Eintracht Frankfurt in Saturday evening’s dramatic Bundesliga encounter.

Gladbach found themselves 0–5 down at halftime and even trailed 0–6 before mounting a late comeback, scoring four goals in the final stages.

Unsurprisingly, Die Fohlen midfielder Rocco Reitz was frustrated after the match, speaking to Sky Germany (via 90Plus):

“I don’t think it makes sense to start listing tactical reasons. It was simply nothing from everyone. We didn’t get anything onto the pitch - duels, effort, discipline. We didn’t put anything together at all. I’m completely fed up,” he said.

“Something like this is hard to explain. It’s really a good question why it went like this. We gave them far too much space. The half-space was completely open, we were constantly being overrun, and they were given free shots. And if you invite them like that, they’re going to put the goals in.”

Reitz also downplayed the late comeback as a positive:

“Yes, we showed a different face then. But that’s not enough to sugarcoat anything here. We need to forget it quickly.”

The defeat leaves Gladbach rock bottom of the Bundesliga table, with just two points from five games.

“We didn’t do the coach any favours today. Everyone has to look at their own mistakes. Nobody should point fingers, because everyone shares responsibility for what happened,” stressed Reitz.
