The official West Ham announcement (see below) includes quotes from Callum Wilson, the new signing declaring;

“I’m excited to be joining a massive Football Club like West Ham. A Club that shares a similar passion to mine, hard work, dedication and also I strive for success so I’m glad to be a part of it.”

I think West Ham looks a good fit for Callum Wilson and good luck to him, he did really well for NUFC and as well as his other contributions, his 18 Premier League goals in the 2022/23 season were key to Newcastle finishing fourth and qualifying for the Champions League.

I have seen and heard a number of Newcastle fans predicting 33 year old Callum Wilson will now no doubt stay fit all next season with West Ham, never missing a single match or day of training, whilst outscoring all Newcastle United strikers in the 2025/26 season.

With now only 13 days until Newcastle United kick off in the Premier League, Eddie Howe will be hoping for a ‘little’ bit of clarity ASAP as to which striker(s) he will have available to him this coming season.

West Ham United official announcement – 2 August 2025:

West Ham United is happy to confirm the signing of centre-forward Callum Wilson.

Wilson joins the Hammers on a one-year contract following prolific spells with Newcastle United, AFC Bournemouth and Coventry City.

Wilson has registered 111 direct goal involvements in 239 Premier League appearances and been capped nine times by England, scoring twice. Now, he will continue his career with the Hammers, and is looking forward to the opportunity to represent the historic London Club.

“I’m excited to be joining a massive Football Club like West Ham. A Club that shares a similar passion to mine, hard work, dedication and also I strive for success so I’m glad to be a part of it,” said Wilson.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge. There’s such talent within the squad. And obviously the gaffer’s come in now, he’s making everybody a team – all working in the same direction to achieve the goal which is to be finishing as high as possible in the league and it’s what the fans deserve, what the team deserve and it’s what the squad quality deserves too.”

Head Coach Graham Potter believes Wilson’s talent and personality will make him a good fit for his squad.

“We are pleased to welcome Callum to West Ham United,” said Potter. “He is a proven, experienced Premier League striker, with a great work ethic and a fantastic goalscoring record. He also has excellent character and personality, which is such an important factor, and something that we place a big emphasis on with our player recruitment.

“We have built a really good spirit and environment around the squad, and Callum will only strengthen and enhance that. He will be a good influence, especially on our young attacking players, and brings leadership qualities.

“I know that Callum is determined to make a really positive contribution to West Ham United, and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Born in Coventry in the West Midlands, Wilson joined his hometown club as a schoolboy and made his senior debut at the age of 17. After loan spells at local clubs Kettering Town and Tamworth, he announced himself with 22 goals for the Sky Blues and a place in the EFL League One Team of the Season in 2013/14 and joined Bournemouth at the season’s end.

Wilson’s first campaign saw him finish as the Cherries’ leading scorer with 20 Championship goals and promotion to the Premier League. There, in August 2015, he scored a hat-trick at West Ham on just his third top-flight appearance. In 2018, he netted on his England debut against the United States.

After scoring 67 goals across six seasons in Dorset, Wilson moved north to Newcastle in September 2020. He scored regularly for the Magpies, including a Premier League single-season high of 18 in 2022/23 – a season that also saw him travel to the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar with England.

In all, Wilson has 143 goals and 49 assists in 401 senior appearances for club and country. In the Premier League, he is directly involved in a goal being scored every 143 minutes he is on the pitch.
