‘I’m fully focussed’ — Experienced La Liga goalkeeper reacts to Barcelona transfer links | OneFootball

FC Barcelona may have just signed Joan Garcia from Espanyol back in the summer but it looks like they are still not done reinforcing the goalkeeping position. Yes, the Spaniard has been on a different level but the club seem to be in the process of identifying his right deputy.

One name that has been doing the rounds is Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro. The Spaniard has not shut the door on Barcelona, even if he was careful with his words. When asked about the Catalan club’s interest, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he said:

“I’m completely focused on Real. I’m very comfortable there, very happy. Obviously, I’ve heard about it because of the buzz on social media. I don’t know anything, I haven’t had any talks. Being able to play and win the final, being able to experience that with our people… I haven’t stopped to think about anything else. You never know.”

Remiro made clear that he is happy at Real Sociedad, that he has not held talks but has not slammed the door shut on a potential move in the future. No player is likely to do that when Barcelona come calling, unless they wish to be elsewhere.

If the club is truly exploring the market for a goalkeeper who can offer reliability, experience and strong all-round play, Remiro fits the conversation. His experience means that he can be trusted whenever Joan is absent.

Considering his contractual situation, he would be available on a free transfer in 2027 but if Barcelona wish to move earlier, they can always try and striker a reduced transfer fee with Real Sociedad in the upcoming summer.

Right now, Remiro and Joan are on international duty with Spain and it does feel like the duo are competing for a single spot in the Spanish World Cup squad. It remains to be seen who gets the nod and what the future holds for the experienced goalkeeper.
