Osmand joined Celtic on a four-year contract this summer after departing Fulham at the conclusion of his deal with the English Premier League club. Throughout pre-season, the Welshman has travelled with the first-team squad to Ireland, Portugal, and Italy, taking part in the Hoops’ seven friendly matches.

Stiff competition for places

With Adam Idah and Shin Yamada currently ahead of him in the pecking order, and Brendan Rodgers continuing to search for additional attacking options, he faces stiff competition for a place among the starting XI and 18-man squad.

Osmand insists he remains positive about his early experience at the club and is willing to bide his time for a chance to prove himself.

“I’m loving it. It’s a great club, it’s just massive”

Speaking to Sky Sports, the 19 year-old said: “I’m loving it. It’s a great club, it’s just massive. The fans are incredible, so yeah, I really feel welcome here and I’m enjoying every moment.”

“I add speed, I add a bit of flair and just what the strikers here are usually doing and what they’re good at. So, in previous years there have been players similar that I’m looking up to really and want to follow in their footsteps.”

Osmand added: “Obviously, I’d like to make an impact right away. But if I need time to get settled, then that’s what you need. But I’m confident in myself and hopefully I can make a big impact at the club.”

The teenager credited Celtic’s former Senior Player Support Officer Laith Al Naeme for playing an influential role in easing his transition from England to life in Glasgow.

Behind the scenes Laith’s admirable personality and support helped many of Celtic’s past and players settle into a new way of life off the pitch in Scotland. His valued work and contribution to the club cannot be underestimated.

After 10 years at Celtic working in various roles, Laith recently moved onto pastures new to take up a new role at Al-Gharafa SC in Doha, Qatar. Having known him personally for a few years, he will smash it over there. Hopefully Laith will be back at the club in some capacity one day.

Osmand continued: “There was a boy here called Laith. He was sort of like the man here. If you needed anything, you go to him. So he’s sort of pulled me in.”

“Then obviously the players are all amazing with me, so welcoming. I have to include the manager. He’s been outlining everything he wants from me, so yeah, it’s incredible.”

“I feel like I’ve got the qualities to come and show what I can do here”

“He [Rodgers] just wants me to bring energy, bring what I’m good at and don’t change my game really,” Osmand outlined. “I feel like I’ve got the qualities to come and show what I can do here. So, he said just keep playing my football and then obviously he’s going to help me with the little bits.”

Osmand will be aiming to earn his first competitive appearance for Celtic this weekend as Rodgers’ men kick off their Scottish Premiership campaign against St Mirren.
