Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has reportedly chosen the club's next €100m signing. It's a big one.

Richard Hughes opted against major signings in his first summer in charge at Liverpool but that all changed in year two. The Reds' sporting director twice broke their transfer record with a pair of €100m+ arrivals.

Liverpool had never signed a nine-figure player before. Florian Wirtz became the first in club history and then that figure was beaten with Alexander Isak's subsequent signing.

And now it seems Liverpool have found their next one. Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg claims that Yan Diomande has been made the club's no.1 priority target this summer.

Diomande, who only joined RB Leipzig at the start of the season, has had a remarkable debut campaign in the Bundesliga. Enough so that his value has reportedly sky rocketed all the way to €100m.

Leipzig don't actually have any reason to sell Diomande and if that's their valuation, you can bet on them holding potential buyers to it. Liverpool won't have this one easy.

But the Ivorian really does look like he could become the world's best winger. His rise has been incredible and there doesn't appear to be a weakness in his game - and he's still only 19.

Yan Diomande: Situation Summary

Bundesliga Breakthrough and Stats

As of 22 April 2026, Yan Diomandé has emerged as a premier Bundesliga talent at RB Leipzig. The 19-year-old Ivorian winger has recorded 12 goals and six assists in 29 league appearances, maintaining an 88% pass completion rate. He recently scored in consecutive matches against Eintracht Frankfurt on 18 April and Borussia Mönchengladbach on 11 April. His market valuation has soared to €75 million following his 2025 move from CD Leganés.

Transfer Battle and Salah Succession

Diomandé is central to an intense transfer tug-of-war. Liverpool remain favourites to sign him as a successor to Mohamed Salah, but they face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, whose sporting director, Luis Campos, has held meetings with the player's representatives. While RB Leipzig are reportedly holding out for an £85–87 million fee, clubs like Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation.

A key figure for the Ivory Coast, Diomandé earned nine caps and scored during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He is expected to be a breakout star at the 2026 World Cup this June.
