One of the biggest talents in Germany has followed the lead of Florian Wirtz ahead of a proposed Premier League move.
Said El Mala has taken the major step of changing his agents. The winger, currently playing for Koln, is now represented by his parents, according to Kicker.
It’s a sign of an impending transfer and, as the article points out, a page from Florian Wirtz’s book. Wirtz is also represented by his parents and secured a club-record move to Liverpool last summer.
El Mala is following in his footsteps as he also could head to the Premier League. Kicker report that Brighton, Chelsea and Newcastle United all have eyes on the teenager.
But Liverpool have also looked at him. There have been consistent links this season, with suggestions that the Reds scouted El Mala before potentially moving.
It certainly seems that a major transfer is on the cards for El Mala after a brilliant breakout season. Like Wirtz, that could well be to Liverpool.
Transfer Bidding War
The 19-year-old 1. FC Köln sensation is currently the subject of intense interest from several Premier League clubs. Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly leading the race, having already seen a €30 million offer rejected in February. Reports today, 10 March, confirm that El Mala has switched his representation to be advised by his parents, a move often seen as a precursor to a major transfer. While Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are monitoring his situation, FC Köln remains in a strong position as his contract runs until June 2030 with no release clause. The club is reportedly holding out for a fee between €50m and €60m.
Breakout Bundesliga Season
El Mala has enjoyed a meteoric rise since joining Köln from Viktoria Köln. In the 2025/26 campaign, he has recorded 8 goals and 3 assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances. His performances earned him a senior Germany national team call-up from Julian Nagelsmann in late 2025. Known for his "street footballer" style and explosive pace, he is increasingly viewed as a viable long-term successor to ageing stars at elite European clubs.
