Mouctar Diakhaby’s Valencia future is uncertain, with the club open to a summer exit given his injury record and salary. According to AS, the centre-back is among the squad’s top earners and the hierarchy would listen to offers.

Diakhaby hopes to recover from the injury he suffered in January to start pre-season with his team-mates, though he is open to leaving if a suitable proposal arrives.

Signed in summer 2018, he has completed eight seasons without ever playing more than 29 LaLiga matches. In league play he has missed 119 games, 38.5% of Valencia’s fixtures since he joined. His market value peaked at 30 million euros in 2019.

His worst setback came in March 2024, a traumatic dislocation of his right knee with severe multi-ligament tears, anterior and posterior cruciate. The incident occurred when Aurelien Tchouameni accidentally fell on his right leg, bending the joint unnaturally, and it kept him out for almost 11 months. He even came close to quitting football.

His contract runs to 2027, yet Valencia would like a solution sooner, a challenge given that record. The club often recalls Vicente Rodríguez, whose left-ankle injury led to chronic issues and multiple operations that curtailed his career. Other injury-hit names include Robben, Neymar, Bale, Falcao, Alaba, Götze, Reus and Woodgate, who played only nine times in three seasons at Real Madrid.
