Manchester United are reportedly making concrete moves for Newcastle United youngster Lewis Hall, who has emerged as one of their main targets for the left-back role.
This season, Luke Shaw has been Man Utd’s ultimate option at left-back. Tyrell Malacia has long been reduced to a forgotten figure at Carrington and will leave the club once his contract expires at the end of the season.

While he started his career as a left-back, Patrick Dorgu is seemingly more comfortable when playing in a more advanced position, and Michael Carrick has been relying on him as a winger.
Therefore, signing a new left-back is considered one of the priorities heading into the summer transfer market.
In recent months, several profiles were mentioned as potential Man Utd targets, including Antonee Robinson and Nathaniel Brown, and even Alphonso Davies reappeared on the rumour mill.
However, Lewis Hall has been considered one of the most exciting profiles among Man Utd fans.
The Slough native is a Chelsea youth product who signed for Newcastle in the summer of 2024 for circa £28 million.
The 21-year-old rapidly established himself as a regular starter at Eddie Howe’s court. Earlier this season, Danny Murphy hailed him as a ‘terrific’ player.

Hall’s exploits at StJames Park have already earned him four senior caps with England, as well as Man Utd’s appreciation.
According to MUFC insider Zayn, the Red Devils held talks with the player’s agent on Sunday. The same source mentioned in the same post on X (formerly Twitter) that INEOS would also be interested in acquiring Rafael Leao from AC Milan if the figures are right.
Thankfully for United, Shaw enjoyed his first healthy campaign in years, sparing the managerial staff any headaches for the left-back spot.
But based on his age and injury record, the club directors must know better than to rely on the 30-year-old as the only natural choice for the role for an entire campaign, especially after securing a return to the Champions League.
As an experienced and reliable full-back, Shaw is best paired with a young profile who can start as a second choice before eventually taking the torch from the London native.
Therefore, Hall’s age and vast promise render him the perfect profile for the understudy/apparent successor role.
Moreover, the Newcastle United star offers a slightly different skillset compared to Shaw, as he tends to push forward and support the team’s attacks more often than his older compatriot, as the stats show.

Nevertheless, striking an agreement with the Magpies won’t be easy, as the young Englishman is under contract until June 2029. Transfermarkt estimates his value at €35 million (£30m), but Newcastle will certainly request significantly larger figures to entertain a sale.
