Chelsea’s first Premier League game of the season is out of the way, and the Blues now can return to another long week of trying to continue improving their squad.
One player who didn’t feature against Crystal Palace – and in fact wasn’t even on the bench – was last seasons’ starting striker Nicolas Jackson. The forward has been heavily linked with moves away since the arrival of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap effectively bumped him down to third choice striker.
There’s been a lot of chatter about interest from various Premier League teams and sides in Europe, but nothing has come of it. Now top German insider Florian Plettenberg has dropped in with claims of talks already taking place with a potential buyer.
Nicolas Jackson on Aston Villa’s shortlist according to insider Florian Plettenberg.
Plettenberg claims that Aston Villa “have added Nicolas Jackson to their shortlist” and “are closely monitoring his situation.”
“Several clubs” which he doesn’t name are “interested.” He noted, as he had done before, that Bayern Munich also “gathered information” at one point, but now seem to be out of the race.
“A move to Munich is not happening,” he concludes.
Both Aston Villa and Chelsea ended their opening Premier League games of the season without a goal, perhaps making Jackson a little more of an important consideration for both.
There are not many Premier League experienced strikers out there on the market this summer, and the Senegal star is one of them. Villa’s ability to pay the £70m+ that Chelsea are likely to demand is the main sticking point here.
We just have to hope that Newcastle and some of the other interested parties start bidding to help us raise that price.
