Inter and Milan have a fluid situation between the sticks and are both eyeing Elia Caprile for the future. Christian Chivu defended Yann Sommer following his poor showing against Juventus, and he answered the bell versus Ajax. While he’ll stay the top option over Josep Martinez, he’s in the final year of his contract, so the Nerazzurri have to start thinking ahead, Mediaset informs.

The Cagliari specialist is intriguing in particular because he could be a bargain relative to the level of his performances. The Rossoblù paid €8M to buy him out for Napoli and could flip him for €10/12M. The Scudetto runner-ups also have an ambitious target on their radar, Marco Carnesecchi, but they’d have to be very persuasive to convince Atalanta.

While Inter are making preliminary evaluations, Milan are fairly certain they’ll have to sign a new goalie, and Caprile would be less expensive than Zion Suzuki, who’s worth €25/30M. Mike Maignan’s injury woes could discourage them from offering robust numbers to renew his expiring contract. They’ll also take a look at their own prodigy Lorenzo Torriani at some point to see whether he’s ready to take over.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Sommer was close to Galatasaray in the summer. They targeted him before Ederson and Ugurcan Cakir. However, they believed they could get him for close to nothing. Instead, the Nerazzurri demanded €7M, and they moved on because of his age.

Our Take on Inter and Milan Eyeing Caprile

It would have been unfair to move on from a proven veteran after a couple of mistakes. Still, they should definitely test Martinez. They evidently thought he could be the eventual heir, as a €14M investment would be disproportionate for just a backup.
