Inter and AC Milan are circling as Lazio prepare for Mario Gila’s potential departure this summer, with a switch to Milan among the possibilities.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio have not lodged a renewal for the 25-year-old, who is one of their lowest earners on a net salary just over €1 million, and the paper portrays his exit as inevitable.
Gila has forged a strong partnership with Alessio Romagnoli, yet neither is expected to remain beyond this campaign. Romagnoli, 31, was close to joining Al-Sadd in January before the deal collapsed in the final minutes of the window. His relationship with president Claudio Lotito is said to be at a low ebb, and Al-Sadd are reportedly planning a renewed summer attempt, which could finally clarify his future.
Both defenders are under contract until June 2027. Gila has admirers at AC Milan and Inter Milan, with Rossoneri sporting director Igli Tare keen to reunite with the player he previously signed for Lazio, while the Nerazzurri are seeking a younger successor to Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.
With his deal entering its final year, Lazio might have to soften their asking price. Real Madrid are entitled to 50% of any fee due to the sell-on clause agreed when they sold Gila in 2022.
