John Stones is looking for a new home after his contract with Manchester City ran out and has been proposed to a few top Serie A sides, with Inter showing the most interest, Alfredo Pedullà reports.
The 32-year-old spent a decade with the Sky Blues, racking up nearly 300 appearances and winning the Premier League six times and the UEFA Champions League once. On the other hand, he missed a lot of time due to various muscular injuries over the last three seasons. Plus, his demands are sizeable, around €8M per year. Napoli pondered him but politely rejected.
Inter will further their contacts with Stones, as they plan to sign two center-backs. They have to decide what to do with Benjamin Pavard first, who’s back from a loan spell. The Nerazzurri aren’t currently planning to meet Chelsea’s request for Trevoh Chalobah, That gives Como a lane to acquire him. However, they seem keener on Galatasaray’s Davinson Sanchez.
Per TuttoSport, Juventus have also been offered the chance to put Stones under contract. They have the same reservations as the other sides. In the meantime, the Bianconeri have cooled off Tarik Muharemovic because of his high valuation and demands. Leeds United, Sunderland, and Bournemouth are battling to capture him, Gianluca Di Marzio relays.
The Nerazzurri can reach certain salary levels if they want to. Bringing in a veteran for free could make sense if they also invest in a high-upside starlet in the same role. Two splashes are unlikely, as they also have other things to do. Juventus appear stuck in cement because they haven’t been able to sell anybody yet and are being careful financially.
