Inter captain Lautaro could play decisive role in pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper Martinez | OneFootball

Inter are already planning ahead for the summer and are expected to enter the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper, with Yann Sommer set to leave when his contract expires.

Despite having Josep Martinez on the books, the Nerazzurri want an experienced elite option to anchor the position for the next cycle.

According to Sky Sport, via TMW, early contacts have been made with Emiliano Martinez, currently at Aston Villa.

The Argentine international remains under contract until 2029, making any potential deal complex both financially and competitively, with several top clubs monitoring his situation.

Inter captain Lautaro could convince compatriot Martinez to join

Martinez is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but his high salary and Villa’s strong negotiating position mean Inter would need a compelling sporting project to stand out.

That is where Lautaro Martinez could play a key role.

Inter’s captain enjoys an excellent relationship with his Argentina teammate and is believed to be willing to personally sound him out on a move to Milan.

Lautaro sees Martinez as a player who could immediately raise the level of Cristian Chivu’s squad and help Inter remain competitive domestically and in Europe.

Martinez brings vast experience, having played extensively in the Premier League with Villa and previously Arsenal, as well as winning major honours with Argentina, including the World Cup and multiple Copa América titles.

While the operation would be far from straightforward, Inter’s interest is concrete, and the influence of their captain could yet prove decisive.
