After about 8 hours of negotiations, Lega Serie A, yesterday, decided to move the match between Inter and Roma from Saturday 26 April to Sunday 27 at 15:00 due to the funeral of Pope Francis scheduled for Saturday at 10:00.
Today’s edition of La Repubblica revealed some background on the negotiations.
According to the newspaper, Inter executive Beppe Marotta, at first, had proposed 21 May as a possible date for the recovery of the match against the Giallorossi in order to better prepare for the two legs against Barcelona valid for the Champions League semi-final.
Roma would have expressed themselves strongly against the proposal together with the president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, who would have threatened to take legal action against the Nerazzurri team in the event of assent to the proposal.
Furthermore, in the event of a postponement to the end of May, Inter would have been able to count on the recovery from suspension of Bastoni and Mkhitaryan, two key players in Inzaghi’s ranks.
