Inter Miami on Friday renamed a stand at their stadium in honour of Lionel Messi. The Argentina forward becomes the first footballer to play regularly in a stadium featuring a stand named after him.

The club said in a statement that tributes usually look to the past, but this one comes from the present, from what is felt each time Leo steps onto the pitch.

Messi, 38, joined Inter Miami in summer 2023. He has helped them win four trophies. They lifted the 2023 Leagues Cup, the Supporter's Shield in 2024, then the MLS Cup and the Eastern Conference in 2025.

To date he has played 94 matches for Inter Miami in all competitions, scoring 82 goals and providing 53 assists. He is already the club's all-time top scorer and assist provider since its 2018 founding.

The renamed section is at the Nu Stadium in Florida. Messi is Inter Miami's captain.
