Inter Milan thoroughly outplayed Fiorentina tonight.

After David de Gea made several incredible saves to fend off the Nerazzurri in the first half, La Viola fell apart in the second half.

Hakan Calhanoglu opened the floodgates with a superb long-range strike, breaking the deadlock in the 66th minute.

Petar Sucic made it 2-0 only five minutes later with a delightful solo goal. Furthermore, the 21-year-old scored his first-ever goal at San Siro.

Then, Calhanoglu sealed Fiorentina’s fate from the spot after Ange-Yoan Bonny drew a penalty shortly after coming off the bench.

As such, Inter bounced back from Saturday’s heart-wrenching defeat at Napoli, restoring a three-point deficit to Antonio Conte’s side.

More importantly, the team delivered another impressive collective performance, proving they have what it takes to challenge for the Scudetto.

However, Inter cannot afford to rest on their laurels as they still lag three points behind pacesetters Napoli.

“A team like Inter has the obligation and the duty to overcome difficult moments in order to carry forward the dream and the objective,” Cristian Chivu said.

“Today was not easy at all. Fiorentina are well organized and wanted to strike on the counterattack,” he added. “We were good, even though in the first half we struggled in the final 20 meters.

“However, the search for space was there. In the second half, we were more concrete and determined, and managed to unlock the game with a long-range shot that we hadn’t attempted in the first half.

“Then, with the second goal, things became easier.

“We’ve had patience; we always need to maintain our physical and mental energy at the highest level to understand the opponent.

“Then everything rewards you. When the second phase of a play came, we found clarity, space, and determination.

“For the rest, it’s right to reward young players, but you have to be careful how and with whom you put them on the field.

“For us, it’s easier because we have a squad that gives them significant support, not only during matches but also in training, where they’re pushed to raise their level.”

Sucic couldn’t control himself after scoring his first Inter goal, erupting into a wild celebration.

“I have never been composed in celebrations over these months,” Chivu said. “I’m happy for him because he is a complete midfielder who can play many roles.

“He has quality and a strong engine, covering a lot of ground.

“When he reaches the box, I’m pleased because he has the technical skill and the composure he showed today.

“We’re happy with how he works and the contribution he’s giving to the team.”

Finally, he praised Yann Bisseck for his remarkable performance.

“I’m happy for Yann,” Chivu admitted. “This is my way of viewing a player. I’ve always thought he could play as a center-back.

“We even tried it in Belgium, and today we repeated it against an opponent like Kean, who can put you in difficulty.

“Regarding the 2-0 incident, I’m not sure.

“But when he came to drink water, I told him, especially with an open ball, not to go for the interception and not to get caught on the counter.

“These are ways to understand what I should and shouldn’t allow, but my job and my staff’s job is to make these things clear.

“However, the courage to keep a high line is always important, while understanding the risks.

“When in doubt, it’s always better to drop back rather than go for the interception.

“This is my rule, something I followed as a player too, even if I wasn’t as fast as Bisseck.

“But because of my past as a defender, I can teach something to my players.”
