Inter Milan manager Cristian Chivu replaced Luis Henrique in the first half during Friday’s emphatic 6-2 home win over Pisa.
Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInter1908, Beppe Bergomi justified the 45-year-old’s decision to withdraw the struggling winger before halftime.
Desperate times require desperate measures, and Inter’s situation was nothing short of concerning after the opening 25 minutes.
Indeed, Alberto Gilardino’s side secured a stunning two-goal lead at San Siro after just 23 minutes, catching the Nerazzurri by surprise.
Pressured to turn things around, Cristian Chivu made a strange choice.
He took Luis Henrique off in the 34th minute in favor of Federico Dimarco, which turned the game on its head.
In addition to making a first-half assist, the Italian wingback scored another Serie A goal as Inter ran riot in the second half.
However, Inzaghi’s decision caught many Inter fans by surprise, considering such practice was unseen during Simone Inzaghi’s regime.

“We’ve all seen the murmur from San Siro,” Bergomi said. “What was this kid actually giving you?
“He’s fine with ball management and in knowing when not to take risks…
“He was signed as an alternative to Dumfries with different characteristics.
“But in the final 30 meters, he plays simple: backward pass, lateral pass, or a cross straight to the keeper.
“When does he play well? Against Como, who come to press you and leave spaces, but that’s too rare.
“Because then Inter becomes one-dimensional and attacks only on the left.
“You can see Dumfries’ potential; he gets to 7-8 goals.
“This kid has played 9 out of 10 matches, but on the wings, Inter needs to step in and get an alternative.”
Henrique is likely to drop to the bench when Inter take on Borussia Dortmund in Wednesday’s must-win UEFA Champions League clash.
Indeed, Carlos Augusto has emerged as the likeliest candidate to start on the right wing.
