Lautaro Martinez inspired Inter Milan to a potentially season-defining 2-0 victory at fellow Serie A title rivals Atalanta tonight.
Speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews, El Toro acknowledged the importance of taking three points in Bergamo.
Inter seized a golden opportunity to open up a four-point lead at the table’s summit after Napoli’s slump at Venezia.
Marcus Thuram could’ve scored early on, but the woodwork denied him a 14th league goal this season.
However, the Nerazzurri found a breakthrough at the start of the second half.
Carlos Augusto headed home Hakan Calhanoglu’s cross to break the deadlock.
Then, Ederson’s red card paved the way for a less nerve-shredding finish.
Indeed, Inter quickly seized the numerical advantage as Lautaro netted his 11th league goal this term.
His strike sealed Atalanta’s fate in this fixture, propelling the reigning Scudetto holders six points clear of La Dea.
“We prepared for the game in the best possible way,” El Toro said.
“And we recovered our energy because Atalanta make you work hard with their man-marking; we know them well.

“I think we approached the match correctly, we put in a great team effort, and the victory is well deserved.
“We were superior for the full 90 minutes with our quality and possession.
“We could have scored more, but we’ll gladly take the three points, which are very important for our position in the table.”
Meanwhile, Lautaro confirmed that Napoli’s draw at Venezia put more wind into Inter’s sails.
“It seems like we don’t want to say it, but yes,” he added. “We are strong, and we prove it.
“Sometimes results come, sometimes they don’t, because we play every three days.
“The team is competing on all fronts – it will be tough, but we will fight for everything.
“When we step onto the pitch, we want to win. That has been our mentality for years, and we want to keep going down this path.”
