Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi says that he is still “counting on” midfielder Davide Frattesi, and considers him part of the project.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, after his team’s 1-0 Serie A win over Venezia. He responded to the recent reports of Frattesi wanting to leave.
Inter midfielder Frattesi was not in the starting eleven against Venezia this evening.
The fact that this came amid a fair bit of speculation about the Italian international’s future raised further eyebrows.
Reportedly, Frattesi is not happy with his playing time at Inter. There are even rumours that he’s asked to leave.
And Roma, in particular, are keen on signing the former Sassuolo midfielder.
However, Frattesi did come on this evening against Venezia, even if he did not start the match.
And the Italian international had his contribution to make. He injected some energy into the midfield battle, hardly looking like he is desperate to leave.
Inzaghi said that he counts on Frattesi “A great deal.”
“A lot has been said about him,” the Inter coach continued. “But he’s fully involved in the project.”
“He works hard. And without Mkhitaryan’s injury, he would have started today.”
Inzaghi continued that Frattesi “did well when he came on.”
“That’s what he has to do. He’s given us a lot over the last year and half, maybe he wants more playing time, but he knows how much competition for places there is.”
“I’m very happy with him,” Inzaghi said of Frattesi. “And we want to move forward with him.”
“Marotta has already spoken about it,” the Inter coach added. “But I can say that he’s part of the project and we’re happy to have him.”
Of the match against Venezia, Inzaghi said that “In the second half, the actions we had could’ve led to a goal.”
“But we were up against Stankovic, who made some great saves.”
“These guys gave their all,” Inzaghi stressed. “Today we won, and that’s what we wanted.”
And of which players he expects to return from injury against Bologna, Inzaghi said “There’s some hope for Acerbi and Calhanoglu.”
“Mkhitaryan will undergo tests tomorrow.”
“There are a lot of matches close together. Our aim is to have as many players available as possible.”
