Inter Milan are already preparing for life after Yann Sommer, with the veteran goalkeeper expected to leave the club at the end of the season and Cagliari keeper Elia Caprile has been lined up as a potential successor.

The Swiss international, who turns 37 in December, is out of contract in June, prompting the Nerazzurri to start assessing potential replacements.

The 24-year-old has been one of the standout performers in Fabio Pisacane’s side.

He is widely viewed as one of the most promising Italian goalkeepers of his generation.

Furthermore, Caprile just received his first call-up to the Italian national team.

However, negotiations are expected to be complicated by Cagliari’s steep asking price.

The Sardinian club are said to value Caprile at around €35 million.

They paid just €8.5 million to make his transfer from Napoli permanent earlier this year.

That figure has given Inter pause for thought.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri are reportedly exploring alternative formulas to make a deal more viable.
