Inter Milan are considering a move for Roma defender Zeki Celik as Matteo Darmian edges closer to a Nerazzurri exit.

According to FcInterNews.it, Celik would not arrive as a replacement for Denzel Dumfries, but instead would fill the squad role vacated by Darmian.

The former Manchester United defender is out of contract this summer.

And, therefore, Celik could serve as a versatile backup capable of playing across multiple positions on the right side.

The Turkish international, who faced Inter at San Siro last Sunday, is set to become a free agent on July 1st, with no renewal at Roma currently in the pipeline.

A free transfer is precisely the type of deal that club president Beppe Marotta has made a hallmark of Inter’s transfer strategy.

Celik is seen as capable of operating both as a right wing-back and potentially as a right-sided centre-back.

Indeed, mirroring the multi-functional role that Darmian has filled.

Especially under Antonio Conte, Simone Inzaghi, and Cristian Chivu.

Darmian joined Manchester United from Torino in 2015.

He spent five years at Old Trafford before joining Inter in 2020.

Then going on to become a reliable squad option across multiple trophy-winning campaigns.

Celik, meanwhile, has been a consistent presence for Roma since joining from Lille in 2022.
