Marcus Thuram didn’t shy away from giving credit where it was due after Inter’s 1-0 defeat to AC Milan in the derby at San Siro.

Speaking to Inter TV, the French forward admitted that the Nerazzurri paid the price for missed chances and an inspired performance from Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Inter created a string of opportunities throughout the night, and Thuram acknowledged that the Rossoneri shot-stopper was the difference.

“We created many chances tonight, and we faced an incredible goalkeeper,” he said, with quotes via FCInterNews.

“We have to keep going like this and not get discouraged by the defeat, luck will turn our way too.”

The Frenchman was involved in several of Inter’s best moves, combining well with Lautaro Martinez before fading slightly in the closing stages.

Thuram recognised that his own physical condition still isn’t at its peak after the international break. “I feel good, but at the end I didn’t have the legs I wanted,” he admitted.

Despite that, he insisted the team must regroup quickly ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid.

Inter dominated possession and spent long spells in Milan’s half, but failed to convert pressure into goals.

Thuram stressed that there were still positives to build on, pointing out the overall performance level despite the frustration of a derby defeat.

“We’ll work now to play at our best on Wednesday,” he said.

“We have to restart from the positive aspects tonight and add the details we missed to go to Madrid and play a serious match.”

The Frenchman underlined the importance of keeping faith in the team’s direction under Cristian Chivu.

Indeed, reminding supporters that the season is long and defined by consistency rather than one-off setbacks.

Inter return to training on Monday as preparations shift immediately to Europe.
