Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi suffered a thigh injury during his team’s Serie A win over Hellas Verona.
This according to Italian outlet FCInterNews. They report that the reason for the 36-year-old having to come off early in the match was a contracture to his right thigh muscles.
Inter returned to Serie A action from the international break this afternoon.
And by and large the Nerazzurri’s league match against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi was a very positive outing.
Inter won the match 5-0 to go top of the league table, at least for the next few hours.
However, there was one major sour note for Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi.
That came in the form of an apparent injury to defender Francesco Acerbi.
As he had in Inter’s last return match from an international break – away to Roma in October – Acerbi started this afternoon’s match at the Bentegodi.
But it was a similar outcome to that match in the Italian capital last month for the Italian international.
Acerbi was in the starting eleven. However, he was only able to see out around fifteen minutes of the match.
The former Lazio and Sassuolo defender went into a challenge to clear a loose ball in midfield.
However, it was immediately apparent that Acerbi had suffered a muscle problem as he stretched to make the problem.
Acerbi grimaced and held his right leg in evident discomfort.
Inter coach Inzaghi very quickly made the substitution. Stefan de Vrij replaced Acerbi at the heart of Inter’s back three.
Naturally, the apparent injury to Acerbi is a big worry for Inter. Particularly with such a busy schedule on the way.
According to FCIN, the problem for the Italian international is a contracture to the thigh flexor muscles in his right leg.
In the next few hours, there should be more information about the seriousness of Acerbi’s injury and how much time he will be on the sidelines for.
