Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi offered a promising fitness update on Yann Sommer but confirmed Josep Martinez will play against Feyenoord.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, the 48-year-old hailed the team’s mentality amid a growing injury crisis.

After squeaking past Genoa 1-0, Inter held Napoli to a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s Serie A top-table six-pointer.

However, that wasn’t the result Simone Inzaghi had expected, let alone wanted.

Unfortunately, Philip Billing drew Napoli level three minutes from time.

Losing Federico Dimarco to a muscular problem only added insult to injury.

“Inter is doing well,” he said. “We know it’s a moment of emergency, especially in a specific area of the field.

“But we’ve worked hard for these Round of 16 matches, and we know this is a crucial moment of the season.

“There are only a few matches left, then there will be a break.

“We’ll be ready tomorrow,” he added.

Despite recovering from thumb surgery, Sommer will not be between the sticks tomorrow.

Instead, Martinez will retain his place in goal after impressing in the last three games.

“Sommer has done a great job and is fully available, but tomorrow I think Martinez will play,” Inzaghi admitted.

Meanwhile, the Scudetto-winning manager praised Feyenoord’s home prowess.

“We know there will be a return leg at San Siro, but we also need to play an important game in this intense stadium that drives them,” he claimed.

“They changed coaches.

“But they are a team that has had excellent results in this Champions League against Bayern Munich, Milan, City.

“So we will need great attention.”

Inzaghi is confident Alessandro Bastoni will thrive as a makeshift wingback in tomorrow’s clash.

“Bastoni will help us,” he was adamant.

“Every team can build with its own principles of play when they have the ball.

“And when the opponent has it, they can also make some different exits.

“Because when a right wingback goes forward on the opponents, the defense is basically always in a four.”
