Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta delivered his verdict on the ‘historic’ purchase of San Siro.
Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri chief highlighted the importance of this history-defining deal.
Indeed, the clubs sealed an epic €197 million deal after months of intense talks with local authorities.
Therefore, the Serie A giants can now proceed with their plan and build a new state-of-the-art stadium.
Furthermore, construction is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with the clubs hoping to finish the work by 2031.
Meanwhile, renowned British firm Norman Foster will be in charge of the works.
Despite the city’s attempt to obstruct the deal, this feels like a historic achievement in Italian football.
As such, it’s no wonder that Beppe Marotta hailed this agreement as a ‘historic moment for the entire nation.’

“Today is a historic day for Milan, for the Milan clubs and for all of Italy,” Marotta said. “We have taken the step with the acquisition of San Siro.
“This is a national icon, and our intention is to build a stadium that meets modern standards in terms of hospitality, welcome, safety, and that becomes a reference point for the area, re-qualifying the neighbourhood as well.
“This operation will take time, but it will be something extraordinary in Milan and will be an added value for the entire community.
“I don’t want to commit myself too much, but it must be ready by the European Championships, so before 2032.
“There will be many steps to climb, as Scaroni said, but we do not get discouraged.
“The ownership is determined; this is an objective that the club has aimed at for years. I am sure we will get all the way.
“The stadium asset represents an enriched heritage that brings economic advantages too.
“Indeed, the matchday revenue will be increased in view of the quality services offered during the match.
“What today is called sustainability must be pursued also via the valorisation of our football movement.
“We have some difficulties in exploiting our resources.
“I refer to the sale of TV rights, which are an important part of revenues, especially foreign rights, where there is a gap between Italy, Germany, Spain, and England.
“With beautiful stadiums and a quality football product, we can bridge this gap.”
