Inter Milan threaten Barcelona’s pursuit of versatile Juventus defender | OneFootball

Barcelona’s search for defensive reinforcements could become significantly more complicated after a new contender emerged in the race for one of the club’s preferred targets.

The Catalans are expected to review several areas of the squad this summer, with the full-back department remaining one of the biggest talking points internally. 

While much of the attention has focused on attacking additions, the club is also exploring defensive solutions capable of fitting Hansi Flick’s tactical demands.

Now, according to transfer specialist Gianluigi Longari, Barcelona may face strong competition in their pursuit of Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso, with Serie A champions Inter Milan stepping into the picture.

Cambiaso has established himself as one of the most versatile defenders in Italian football, which explains why his name continues to attract interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Longari reports that Inter Milan are evaluating the Juventus star as a potential target should their pursuit of Atalanta youngster Marco Palestra fail to materialise. 

That development immediately places another major club in contention for a player Barcelona have been monitoring for some time.

Notably, the Blaugrana’s interest is far from new, as their recruitment department has followed Cambiaso closely and views him as a profile capable of solving multiple tactical issues within the squad.

At Barcelona, speculation regarding Alejandro Balde’s continuity is rife, while uncertainty around the future of Joao Cancelo continues to generate headlines, which explains why Barcelona are looking for a new left-back.

For that reason, Barcelona have revived their interest in the Juventus defender.

At the same time, Chelsea are also believed to be admirers of Cambiaso, adding more competition for a player who could be available if offers in the region of €30 million arrive.

Now, Barcelona have a decision to make, not only about Cambiaso, but also about how their left-back position will look from the 2026/27 season.
