Inter Milan will announce the contract extension of wingback Denzel Dumfries in the next few days.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the contract will not include a release clause.

Inter and Dumfries have been in contract extension talks for a number of months now.

The negotiations have had their ups and downs. In the spring, it had seemed as though the parties would not be able to reach an agreement on wages.

But then, over the summer, Dumfries made clear his desire to stay at Inter. And this looks to have pushed him to accept an offer from the Nerazzurri.

Inter, for their part, have always been clear in their stance.

Because Dumfries is currently only under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of next June, the club have been wary of the risk of losing the Dutchman on a free transfer next summer.

That is what happened with defender Milan Skriniar in 2023.

But in spite of this, Inter neither sold Dumfries nor secured a new deal this summer.

Inter To Announce New Deal For Denzel Dumfries This Week

The Nerazzurri have not been overly worried about Dumfries’s situation in any event, however.

The Corriere confirm that the club have reached a complete agreement with the Dutchman and his representation.

Now the only thing left is for Dumfries to put pen to paper and make it official.

Then, Inter can make the announcement. The Nerazzurri will announce a new contract for the 28-year-old until the end of June 2028.

The Corriere report that the announcement is now just days away.

Meanwhile, the newspaper also report that there will not be a release clause in Dumfries’s deal.

That had reportedly been a request from the Dutchman and his representatives in negotiations.

However, Inter have held firm, and the contract will not include such a clause.
