Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian addressed the press ahead of tonight’s UEFA Champions League clash against Bodo/Glimt.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia via FCInterNews, the 36-year-old urged his teammates to find an early goal and increase their chances of overturning a two-goal deficit.

Despite an impressive performance in the first leg, Cristian Chivu decided to leave Darmian on the bench this evening.

Indeed, Luis Henrique starts on the right wing, as Inter bid to complete their first Champions League comeback since 2011.

The Nerazzurri suffered a 3-1 loss in Bodo last week, but they bounced back on Saturday, beating Lecce 2-0 on the road.

Now back at San Siro, where they’ve won their last three outings by an aggregate score of 11-4, they ought to take the field in a buoyant mood.

However, star striker Lautaro Martinez is not in contention after sustaining a calf injury in Norway.

Therefore, Francesco Pio Esposito and Marcus Thuram will shoulder the responsibility of firing Inter into the next round.

“We need the right focus and the right spirit,” Darmian said. “It won’t be easy, we have to overturn a two-goal deficit, but we’ve shown what we’re capable of. We’ll need the best version of ourselves to turn this result around.”

Asked whether Inter need a special approach to turn this tie on its head, Darmian replied: “Yes, the approach has to be the same as it has been all year.

We must take the field as we always do and try to score as soon as possible, but it can’t become an obsession because the match is long.”

Then, Darmian maintained the importance of realizing how strong Inter truly are.

“We have to be aware of our strength, but it must not turn into arrogance. We need to be ourselves, and we’ll show that tonight.”

Meanwhile, Speaking to Inter Tv via FCInterNews, Darmian emphasized how crucial the San Siro support will be on such a decisive night.

“With both,” he stated. “We know tonight will be a difficult match, but we’ll try to give our best from the very first minute to overturn the first-leg result.”

“We’ve shown over the years that the team’s strength lies in the group. Whoever plays gives their all, and we’ll prove that again tonight.”

Finally, he confirmed that the San Siro atmosphere could play a crucial role in helping Inter overcome the deficit.

“It can be the twelfth man on the pitch, absolutely. We know how much they can give us, and tonight they’ll push us on to help us turn the tie around.”
