Inter Milan and Ajax face off in Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League this Wednesday. Both teams will be eager to kick off the league phase of the 2025/26 season on a strong note.
Inter’s domestic form has been patchy. The team recorded an emphatic 5-0 win over Torino in their opener, but setbacks have come in the form of back-to-back defeats against Udinese and Juventus.
Their most recent club clash ended in a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Juventus, despite holding a 3-2 lead. But they bring a wealth of experience to Europe’s top competition, having reached last season’s Champions League final before succumbing 5-0 to Paris Saint-Germain.
Cristian Chivu heads into the match with a fully healthy squad for the Amsterdam trip. Marcus Thuram, who battled cramps in the recent Derby d’Italia against Juventus, has avoided any major injury and is set to start alongside captain Lautaro Martinez in attack.
Josep Martinez could replace Yann Sommer in goal after Sommer’s underwhelming display in the 4-3 loss to Juventus. Defensively, summer signing Manuel Akanji – currently on loan from Manchester City – is expected to join Francesco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni.
Inter Milan Predicted XI: Sommer; Akanji, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Sucic, Dimarco; Thuram, Martinez
Wednesday 17th September, 8pm BST.
In the United Kingdom, the match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 5.
