Manchester City and their bitter city rivals United are both at the centre of fresh transfer links to one of Inter’s finest wing-back profiles, according to new reports.

Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff have largely moved away from traditional and natural full-backs on the left side of his defensive unit, instead finding huge success through the likes of Nathan Ake and Josko Gvardiol moving away from centre-back.

However, it remains to be seen whether there could be a change of system in the coming weeks and months in light of Rodri’s long-term absence, with either of the aforementioned stars called into action further up the field or even in defensive midfield.

Given the number of matches that Manchester City are also expected to play, Guardiola’s squad will be needed to operate to their maximum limits and as such squad depth is a greater requirement moving forward.

As such, Manchester City may feel that although they have enough solutions in their defensive unit, new market opportunities for some of the continent’s finest talents should be entertained, and that has led the club towards the Italian game.

According to the information of InterLive.it, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco has now ended up on the transfer radar of both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are also said to have ‘looked’ at the 26-year-old wing-back recently, and could return for the player should Canadian international Alphonso Davies leave the Allianz Areana as a free agent.

However, one potentially major stumbling block for any side looking to enter into conversations over a deal for Dimarco would have to face up to the Serie A winners demanding a ‘stellar offer’ of no less than €80 million, according to the report.

Speaking prior to the UEFA Champions League final of 2023 between Manchester City and Inter, Federico Dimarco was keen to praise the winning culture installed by Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

“For Manchester City, winning is an obsession,” Dimarco told his club’s in-house media team, ahead of a match that would prove such a feeling as Rodri scored a second-half winning goal to bring Europe’s greatest honour to the Etihad for the first time ever.

For the time being, Manchester City and their recruitment team will likely be more focussed on contractual negotiations with existing star players, as well as the central midfield roles and whether more support is need for the likes of the injured Rodri.
