Jobe Bellingham played the full 90 minutes for England in their U21 European Championship qualifier. In their away match in Andorra, the Young Three Lions secured a late 1-1 draw with a penalty in the 89th minute.
Ramy Bensebaini celebrated a resounding victory with Algeria: at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa, his team won the friendly against Guatemala 7-0. The Dortmund player featured in central defence and was substituted after 69 minutes. Julian Ryerson played the full 90 minutes in his Norway side’s friendly in Amsterdam, but he and his team were beaten 2-1 by the Netherlands. Norway will be taking part in a World Cup finals for the first time in 28 years this summer. There was a Borussia derby in Basel as goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and Nico Schlotterbeck both played the full 90 minutes in the German national team’s 4-3 victory over Switzerland. Waldemar Anton did not feature.
Marcel Sabitzer and Carney Chukwuemeka provided the highlights of the matchday in Austria’s 5-1 victory over Ghana in Vienna. Sabitzer put his team ahead as early as the 12th minute, set up the second goal and later also provided the assist for the goal scored by his Dortmund teammate Chukwuemeka. The BVB player made his debut for Austria, coming on as a substitute in the 61st minute and scoring his first international goal in the 79th minute. Sabitzer left the pitch shortly afterwards in the 80th minute. Serhou Guirassy was also on target as the BVB striker scored for Guinea in the 89th minute of their friendly against Togo to make it 2-2, playing the full 90 minutes. Earlier on Thursday, Salih Özcan and Daniel Svensson were in action in the World Cup play-offs. Özcan did not feature in Turkey’s 1-0 win over Romania in Istanbul. Svensson came on as a substitute in the 77th minute of Sweden’s 3-1 victory over Ukraine in Valencia. Both teams are now set to contest their play-off finals for a place at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Sweden face the Czech Republic at home on Tuesday evening, while Turkey battle for a place in the finals in Kosovo (kick-off at 20:45 CET in both matches).
