Inter Milan suffered a devastating blow to their Serie A title hopes at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

The Nerazzurri conceded in stoppage time to fall to a 0-1 defeat. This was their fourth loss of the season in the league.

Inter’s momentum from the Champions League came crashing down. The team looked a shadow of the side that had secured a draw against Bayern Munich to advance to the semifinals.

Inter did look to be on course to at least see out a draw. A point would not have been the worst result considering the evident exhaustion in the Nerazzurri’s performance.

But a spectacular overhead kick by Bologna winger Riccardo Orsolini meant that Inter have to return to Milan empty-handed.

Inter are now level on points with Napoli with five matches to go in the league campaign.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri would surely feel that they have the harder fixture list to come. At least on paper.

Therefore, the momentum would now seem to be with the Partenopei.

However, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi isn’t being too hasty.

“It’s too early to analyze tonight,” he reflected after the match. “The team was nervous.”

“We had to defend better, and not let Oroslini finish,” the Inter coach admitted of the late winner.

“I can’t say anything about how the guys did for 93 minutes,” he added.

Then, Inzaghi added bitterly that “the fact that the throw-in was taken twelve metres ahead of where it should’ve been can’t be an excuse.”

And the Nerazzurri coach also noted that “we have some players missing.”

“And the two players who got a booking were one yellow card from suspension. So they won’t be available against Roma.”

Henrikh Mkhitayran and Alessandro Bastoni both went into the book. Therefore, both will serve suspensions for next weekend’s clash with the Giallorossi.

“We have an important semifinal on Wednesday,” noted Inzaghi.

“And tomorrow, we’ll analyze what happened today.”

But the Inter coach was clear on one thing: “The title race isn’t over here in Bologna. Without a doubt.”

He noted that “we’re level on points” with Napoli.

And that “the fixture list is only of relative importance.”

“Because every match in Italy is against well-organized opposition.”

Inzaghi Rages At Bologna Throw-In

Bologna’s last-gasp winner came from a long throw-in. And in the view of Inter’s coach, it perhaps should never have happened.

“The guys were frustrated because the ball went out in my technical area, but they moved the throw-in almost to the Bologna technical area,” said Simone Inzaghi.

“You can’t kick the ball twelve metres ahead like that.”

“But still, we should have defended better with a numerical advantage in the area,” the Inter coach rued.

“We lost a hugely important match. We didn’t deserve to lose.”

Inzaghi admitted that “it hurts.”

“Tomorrow we’ll analyze the match when we’re in a better mood.”

“But the title race doesn’t end here in Bologna

Then Inzaghi insisted that “we’ll go again starting from today’s performance.”

“We went blow for blow with a team that are in great form,” continued the Inter coach. “They’ve only lost one match at home against Verona.”

Inzaghi declared that “we gave it our all.”

“We showed great respect to Bologna by attacking when it was the right time.”

“We would have gladly accepted a draw,” Inzaghi admitted. “It would have been the fairest result… but that’s football.”
