Inter Milan’s Serie A win over Cagliari between two legs against Bayern Munich sent a resounding message to Napoli in the title race.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Whether they admit it or not, Napoli will have been watching Inter Milan’s Serie A clash with Cagliari closely yesterday.
The Nerazzurri were playing between two legs of a huge Champions League quarterfinal tie against Bayern Munich.
Moreover, Inter’s last couple matches against Udinese and Parma highlighted how easy it can be to slip up in Serie A.
Therefore, it was certainly not a foregone conclusion that Inter would take three points.
For Napoli, not having European football has been a major advantage in the title race.
And for Inter, it has been an exhausting challenge to navigate.

But Inter Milan did not slip up the way that Napoli will have hoped for.
There was a bit of a scare in the second half. Cagliari striker Roberto Piccoli got a goal back for the visitors not long after the interval.
But then Inter responded perfectly by scoring a third, through Yann Bisseck from a corner. And from then on, they held their nerve and managed the game well.
This will not have been a welcome sight for Napoli.
Inter proved that they are not going to collapse under the pressure of playing in three competitions. At least not yet,
