Conor Townsend is set for a West Brom return, with an Ipswich expert saying the 33-year-old can revive his career. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the left-back was undergoing a medical on Friday, two years after leaving The Hawthorns.

Ipswich correspondent Stuart Watson viewed Townsend’s spell as a real shame after a serious knee setback, and felt he had been a smart, reliable deputy to Leif Davis and a steady presence off the pitch.

Townsend made 10 appearances in his first season under Kieran McKenna, including six in the Premier League with three starts. Those starts came in a home draw with Villa, an away win at Bournemouth and a defeat at Wolves.

The second year was wrecked by an ACL suffered in France on the eve of last season, at Auxerre in pre-season. He was left out of the 25-man squad and did not play a minute in the Championship, then moved into late-stage rehab from March.

Townsend will operate as back-up to West Brom’s Callum Styles, who has been a reliable regular since replacing him in 2024 and was a two-time player of the season last term.
