Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town, in what was Ruben Amorim’s first match as the club’s new head coach. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Andre Onana 9 – Ensured United remained in the game with some very crucial saves. Produced two brilliant match-saving stops in either half to deny Liam Delap. Also thwarted Conor Chaplin late on.
Noussair Mazraoui 6 – Cruising in the right-centre-back role until his unfortunate deflection for Ipswich’s equaliser. Carried on steadily and helped United clinch a draw.
Matthijs de Ligt 6 – Decent performance but Delap got the beating of him on one or two occasions.
Jonny Evans 3 – Struggled at times with the pace of the game. Recklessly gave the ball away to Omari Hutchinson at some point in the first half, leading to an Ipswich attack. No surprise he was among the first to be taken off.
Amad Diallo 7 – Superb run down the right to register the assist for Rashford’s goal. Relatively did well in a largely unfamiliar wing-back role.
Casemiro 2 – Just poor and ineffective. Almost a nothing performance really. Didn’t provide any solidity in the middle of the park and also didn’t contribute offensively nearly as much as he usually does. Like Evans, unsurprising that he was also among the first set of stars to be substituted, even before the hour mark.
Christian Eriksen 5 – Decent on the ball and made some nice contributions but somewhat a liability off it. Just not enough intensity.
Diogo Dalot 4 – Seems like his struggles in recent weeks remain ongoing. Tried to get forward but didn’t contribute when he did. He and Garnacho didn’t link up well down the left, rendering United ineffective on that side of the pitch.
Bruno Fernandes 4 – Poor and very lacklustre in the first half when operating on the right of attack. Wasn’t involved as much. Slight improvement when he was shifted into central areas.
Alejandro Garnacho 4 – Anaemic and uninspiring performance. Former teammate Alex Tuanzebe had his number throughout the first half. Tried to switch to the opposite flank in the second period but was equally ineffective there. Wasted one or two promising opportunities on the counter.
Marcus Rashford 5 – Scored a very early goal to set United on their way. Dramatically faded after that and didn’t offer much else.
Luke Shaw 6 – Solid when he came on after a lengthy period on the sidelines. Much better than Evans as he slotted into the left-centre-back position.
Manuel Ugarte 4 – Didn’t help sway the midfield battle.
Rasmus Hojlund 5 – Worked hard when he came on.
Joshua Zirkee 5 – Some nice touches and interceptions but not really dangerous.
Mason Mount 5 – On the pitch for a very limited period.
