According to Football Insider, the full-back is closing in on a move to the Valley after an agreement was reached between the two Championship sides.

The 24-year-old has fallen way down the pecking order at Portman Road in the last 18 months, and he even spent time on loan with Sheffield United in the previous term.

The defender has yet to play a single minute of league football this season, with his last appearance for the club coming in the third round of last year’s FA Cup in a 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

Clarke made six appearances in the second division for Sheffield United as Chris Wilder’s side earned a place in the play-off final, although he did not feature in the clashes against Bristol City or Sunderland.

Charlton have reportedly agreed terms with Ipswich on a loan deal for Clarke for the remainder of the campaign.

Nathan Jones is looking to bolster his first team squad this month amid a number of defensive injuries.

The Addicks made a promising return to the Championship at the start of the term, but results in recent weeks have seen them slide down in the relegation battle.

The London outfit will be hoping that Clarke can reinforce their options at the back, as they seek survival in their first year back in the division after gaining promotion in 2025.

Meanwhile, Ipswich are in the mix for automatic promotion to the Premier League, and Clarke has been unable to prove useful to Kieran McKenna’s side in those efforts.

It is unclear whether there will be an option to keep Clarke on a permanent basis in the summer as part of this loan move.

Harry Clarke signing makes sense for all parties

Clarke was a key part of the Ipswich side that gained promotion in 2024, but he has fallen so far down the pecking order since then.

He needs to make a move away from Portman Road this month in order to get his career back on track, especially as he is still only 24.

Charlton should be able to offer him the regular game time that he is seeking, and he can help their efforts to survive in the Championship.

This is a smart move that has the potential to work out well for all parties, which should make it easier to find a permanent solution in the summer.
