Iran held a focused training session at their Tijuana base in Mexico on Saturday before crossing into the United States on Sunday for their World Cup opener against New Zealand in Los Angeles on Monday night.
The late afternoon workout on the adjacent pitch at Estadio Caliente had a relaxed feel despite a significant local security operation and the broader international backdrop. According to L'Équipe, the first part was open to the media, with around 12 journalists present.
Iranian federation president Mehdi Taj addressed reporters during the open section.
The authorised delegation will fly on Sunday to meet media obligations in the United States and to train again.
They will then return to Tijuana after the match.
