Ireland gear up for their crucial World Cup qualifier against Armenia at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium on Tuesday. The hosts welcome the Irish side to Yerevan following a heavy 5-0 defeat to Portugal in their opening qualifying fixture.
Ireland will be without striker Troy Parrott, who has been ruled out with a knee ligament injury sustained during training with AZ Alkmaar. The 23-year-old had been in phenomenal form, scoring 10 goals in seven matches this season.
Celtic’s Johnny Kenny has received his first senior international call-up as a replacement for Parrott and could make his debut in Yerevan. Roma striker Evan Ferguson will lead the line after his goalscoring performance in Ireland’s draw with Hungary. Adam Idah also netted a dramatic equaliser off the bench and is pushing to replace Ferguson in the starting side.
Heimir Hallgrímsson has indicated he may need to rotate his squad due to the challenging travel schedule, with players facing a seven-hour time difference and limited preparation time in Armenia.
Ireland predicted XI: Kelleher; O’Brien, O’Shea, Collins, Doherty; Szmodics, Cullen, Knight, Manning; Azaz, Ferguson
Tuesday September 9th at 5pm BST.
Armenia vs Ireland will be broadcast live in the UK on Amazon Prime Video as a pay-per-view event.
