The second round of Group D is about to conclude. Paraguay and Turkey are about to face each other in a match where both national teams will want to earn three points and fight for second place in the group.
After its disappointing debut against the USMNT, La Albirroja must turn things around and deliver an impeccable performance against Turkey if it hopes to advance to the next round.
To do that, Gustavo Alfaro must introduce its best lineup to the game. Everyone knows Turkey is an offensive team that has weak sidelines.
This raises the question of whether Miguel Almirón will feature tonight against the Europeans, especially after his disappointing World Cup debut.
The match will take place at Levi's Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers. This represents a golden opportunity for Paraguay, as failing to secure all three points would greatly complicate its chances of advancing to the next round, leaving La Albirroja on the brink of a group-stage elimination.
Gustavo Alfaro knows he is walking on thin ice, so to prevent an early elimination, he has to put all the fuel to the fire.
The good news is that the lineups have been released, and the Atlanta United forward is on the starting team, playing as a left winger.
The starting lineup for the Albirroja is: Orlando Gill, Juan José Cáceres, Gustavo Gómez, Omar Alderete, Júnior Alonso, Andrés Cubas, Matías Galarza Fonda, Diego Gómez, Julio Enciso, Miguel Almirón, and Isidro Pitta.
If Paraguay loses tonight, they can say goodbye to their World Cup dream. Thus, Almirón must showcase the same quality he displays in MLS and take advantage of the Turkish fullbacks, whether by scoring himself or setting up Enciso and Pitta.
However, if Alfaro fails to fix Paraguay's defensive issues, there will be little the former Newcastle United star can do to save the South American team.
