Former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas has had his say on man of the moment Cole Palmer and believes he could be the type of player to build a team around.

Palmer has been nothing short of sensational since he joined Manchester City on deadline day last summer in a deal worth up to £42.5m.

The 22-year-old has taken the Premier League by storm and has established himself as one of the best players in the league in such a short space of time.

Fabregas believes teams should be built around Palmer

Palmer was named Premier League Young Player of the Year last season for his incredible campaign and since joining Chelsea has 44 goal contributions, more than anyone else in the league.

The England international was named England Player of the Year of Tuesday, and conversation has centred around whether Palmer is a player teams should be built around.

Former Blue and Como coach Fabregas believes Palmer is the type of player you could certainly build a team around.

“When someone is that special, when someone makes you see and feel that whatever happens in the team he is a game changer, I believe so [you can build a team around them],” he said on the Planet Premier League podcast.

“It is fair to say it could be the right thing to do, even if as coaches we hate to say this kind of thing because we want to protect the team and the collective, but when you have someone that good and with such an impact on the pitch, I think the team see that themselves and they want Palmer to get on the ball as much as possible.

“When he has the ball it feels like everything is slow and everything becomes very clear in his eyes. He is able to play any pass at any angle on the pitch. I think it is possible when a player is that special to create a team around him.”

Palmer’s role at Chelsea is clear, but for England it’s less so and for a player as talented as he is a way to get him into the team has to be found and it will be interesting to see what his role for England will be moving forward.
