Anthony Elanga is a Newcastle United player.
Some eleven months after the first bid went in, the Sweden international is at last pulling on a black and white shirt.
Friday night at last bringing official confirmation that he was a Newcastle United player, joining from Forest.
Anthony Elanga declaring in his first interview after the move, about playing for Newcastle United and the NUFC fans – ‘It isn’t just a shirt, or a job, it’s a responsibility and privilege.’
All players of course try to say the right things after changing clubs but I think Anthony Elanga and a team managed by Eddie Howe, feels like a really good fit.
Not forgetting the fact that he has loads of Premier League experience despite still only being 23, no language issues of course, whilst he is already good friends with the likes of Alexander Isak and Will Osula.
In my opinion, so many advantages compared to buying a player from abroad who might take time to adapt to a new country, new league, new language.
No reason at all why Anthony Elanga won’t hit the ground running, starting at Aston Villa five weeks today.
Anthony Elanga speaking to official Newcastle United media – 11 July 2025:
“I am just so happy to be here.
“I have seen some of the staff and players, everybody has just welcomed me with open arms…just so happy to be here.
“I’m really happy to be here but most importantly, I am ready for the challenge.
“It’s really exciting, Newcastle have got amazing staff, amazing players, an amazing manager who I am excited to work under. I have had a chat with him already and I have got a good idea of what is to come this season.
“For me, I say we, because I am part of a team now, we are building something that is unique and special.
“I really want to buy into the culture of the club, the DNA of the club, and I think it is the perfect time to join having won a trophy last year, got the feel of winning a [domestic] trophy after 70 years, so that’s amazing.
“I just want to be part of that now and create more history with the club.
“Looking forward to putting on a black and white shirt.
“I can add a lot of pace and directness to the team.
“I think this [Newcastle United] team is amazing having played against them.
“I’m really looking forward to playing at St. James’ Park and putting on the black and white top.
“It isn’t just a shirt, or a job, it’s a responsibility and privilege to (play for) this amazing and passionate [Newcastle United] fanbase that lives and breathes football.
